The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday launched a fresh attack on the ruling party, declaring that its failures stem from the fact that “God is not with them because they didn’t start with God.”
Naijaonpoint reports that Aregbesola made the statement in Osogbo during the unveiling of the ADC, where he addressed supporters on the state of the nation and the political direction ahead of the next elections.
Aregbesola accused the present administration of selfishness and incompetence, insisting that its performance has plunged the nation deeper into economic hardship, insecurity and poor governance.
According to him, “They tried their best but God is not with them because they didn’t start with God. They are selfish. They have been disgraceful in all standards, in the economy, security, governance and others.”
He argued that the ruling party had lost moral standing and public support across the country.
The former governor expressed confidence that the coming elections would not be manipulated, saying the ruling party’s usual strategies would fail.
“They cannot rig the election, we know their tactics. Go and start taking good care of old women who have reached menopause, clothe them in good clothes, and let them sit in tens on election day at different polling units and leave the rest to us,” he told supporters.
Aregbesola warned that attempts at electoral manipulation would meet stiff resistance from the people and from divine judgment.
Aregbesola stated that the African Democratic Congress remains the best political alternative to rescue the nation from poverty, hunger, maladministration and widespread insecurity.
He said the event was symbolic, marking 15 years since his administration assumed office in Osun State, noting that the same location had once witnessed his swearing-in as governor.
The ex-governor projected that the ADC would reclaim power in Osun and make serious inroads at the national level.
“By August next year we will certainly meet in Abere; after August we will take over the presidency,” he declared.
Aregbesola insisted that his political legacy continues to resonate with residents across Osun State.
“There is nowhere in Osun that the people do not resonate with what we represent. Our achievements and legacies when we were here continue to speak for us. That is why we get the kind of reception we have anytime we come here, particularly Osogbo, the state capital,” he said.
He maintained that the warm reception from the people proves that the ADC remains a force in Osun’s political landscape.
