Google has included to new foldable features to Android 15, well, kind of. These two features are already available on the Google Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, for example, even on Android 14. So, what’s going on here?
Two new foldable features have appeared along with Android 15
These two features are actually now coming to AOSP Android 15, not Pixel-specific Android 15. So other smartphone manufacturers will be able to use them for their own devices, presuming they don’t code something separately. That’s what most of them do, though, almost every single one.
The first feature allows you to easily pin and unpin your taskbar on the screen. That’s a feature users of Google’s foldables are quite familiar with. This feature basically allows you to keep your apps always within your reach, no matter what you’re doing on the main display. And yes, the taskbar is only accessible from the main display, by default. OEMs can change that, though, of course.
Another feature that users of Pixel foldables and tablets are already familiar with is app pairing. That one has also been added to stock Android 15 aka its AOSP version.
Feature for creating app pairs for multi-window in now baked into Android 15
What does this do, exactly? Well, it allows you to create a shortcut of an app pair for multi-window multitasking. If you have a habit of using, for example, Chrome and TikTok side-by-side in a multi-window setup, this feature allows you to create a shortcut for that app pair.
This will save you time if you use that app pair often, that’s for sure. You can simply tap that shortcut in order to have both apps on the screen at once, instead of opening them manually one by one in a multi-window setup.
