Most of the smartphones haven’t yet started getting the Android 15 update. However, the search engine giant Google has already kicked off the development of the Android 16 version. We already know that Android 16 will be called “Baklava” and it won’t arrive anytime before the second quarter of 2025. We also know a handful of changes are coming in the Android 16 version. Now a new report suggests that Google is changing the gesture to open the Quick Settings menu in Android 16.
You won’t need a two-finger gesture to access the Quick Settings panel in Android 16
According to a report by Android Authority, you won’t be required to use a two-finger gesture to open the Quick Settings menu in Android 16. Instead, you would be able to do it simply by using a single-finger swipe gesture on the right half of the status bar. The new gesture was spotted in the code of the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 update. Notably, the feature isn’t enabled by default. The source had to do a bit of tinkering to enable the functionality. This is one of the very simple changes that Google is bringing to Quick Settings in Android 16.
People hated to swipe two fingers to access the Quick Settings menu. Thus Google seems to have used the user feedback to make the changes. Now, some of the Android phone makers have already implemented the upcoming functionality in the existing custom Android skins. As of now, it’s not clear when Google will roll out the new design. However, we expect that it won’t arrive before the release of Android 16 in Q2 of next year.
Quick Settings tiles could be resizable
Google is also making more changes to the Quick Settings menu in Android 16. A report last month suggested that the Quick Settings tiles in Android 16 could be resizable. Currently, Android doesn’t offer many customization options for the Quick Settings. However, in Android 16, you will be able to resize and change the shape of these. You would be able to choose between the two sizes – 2×1 and 1×1.
Also, you would be able to set up to 16 tiles in Android 16. You can also combine big and small tiles on the Quick Settings panel.
