The latter is a note-taking app, but unlike Keep, it’s heavily integrated with Gemini AI models to offer powerful advanced features and targeted at researchers. Now, Google has announced a customization option for Audio Overview, one of NotebookLM’s best features.
Since its inception, NotebookLM has carried the label of “experimental” service. However, after a long time of development and refinement, Google is finally removing that label. Starting today, NotebookLM enters its fully stable stage. Additionally, Google is celebrating this milestone by enhancing one of the service’s most popular features: Audio Overview.
Now you can customize the user experience of NotebookLM’s Audio Overview
If you’re unaware, Audio Overview stands out as one of NotebookLM’s most impressive features. Essentially, it enables two “AI-powered personas” to function as “hosts” of a discussion and provide you with summaries of your notes and documents. However, they do so in a dynamic “debate” format. This way, both “hosts” will discuss and exchange ideas related to the content, generating connections and potential new ideas. You can then download the “debate” to listen to it in full whenever you want.
Audio Overview is an ideal way to get inspiration for potential new ideas or viewpoints on the content you are writing about. Gemini models have the capability to enable such impressive options. That said, Google is making NotebookLM’s Audio Overview feature even better thanks to a new customization option.
Previously, you could enable Audio Overviews for your documents and wait for the final result. The “AI hosts” acted autonomously, and you could just listen to the discussions they threw at each other. However, now Google will allow you to participate in the process, not as another party but by directing where the “debate” goes. That is, you can choose to focus on a specific topic or tweak how technical you want the language used to be, among other parameters.
You can also listen to Audio Overviews in the background
Google is also adding a function to listen to your Audio Overviews in the background. This way, you can continue working on whatever you want while listening to the summaries. Finally, the Mountain View giant has announced a version of NotebookLM specifically for business use. Google did not offer more specific details about the additional features or prices of this version yet, but will do so later this year.
