THE governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has criticized the Federal Government’s economic policies, stating that they are causing severe hardship for Nigerians.
Speaking at a meeting of the National Reconciliation Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with North-East governors and key stakeholders in Bauchi, Fintiri expressed deep concern over the country’s economic challenges. The meeting was attended by the governors of Bauchi and Taraba, along with the acting PDP National Chairman.
“Nigeria is bleeding. We are suffering, there is too much anger, and the current economic policies are not working,” Fintiri lamented. “We continue to call on the Federal Government to reconsider policies that are making life even more difficult for Nigerians.”
He stressed that leadership is a privilege granted by God and should be exercised with trust and responsibility. He asked that the government avoid policies that worsen citizens’ struggles, saying: “Whatever causes hardship should not be part of your policy because this country belongs to all of us—not the World Bank, IMF, or the international community.”
On party unity, Fintiri reaffirmed that the three PDP governors from the North-East are committed to strengthening the party in the region.
He emphasized that unity played a crucial role in the party’s success during the last presidential election.
“The PDP did not lose in any state in this zone. Even in Borno, where the results showed otherwise, we are still questioning how we lost because we know we didn’t,” he said.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, acknowledged that internal divisions contributed to the party’s loss in the last election. He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to resolving these issues.
“We are here to engage with our party leadership and members to examine where we fell short and what led to the outcome we witnessed,” Oyinlola stated.
