THE governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, visited the family of the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark, in his hometown of Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area, to offer his condolences.
During the visit, the governor extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, the Kiagbodo community, and the entire Ijaw nation.
He assured them of the state government’s full support in the burial arrangements and pledged assistance to ensure a dignified farewell for the late Ijaw leader.
Governor Oborevwori described Pa E.K. Clark as a dedicated advocate for the development of the Niger Delta and the nation, noting that his impact on the country’s history is unforgettable.
“Looking at the faces of the people here today, it is evident that they are celebrating the life of our father, who recently passed away,” he remarked.
Expressing his sorrow, the governor conveyed his condolences to Clark’s family, the people of Kiagbodo, the Ijaw nation, and the Niger Delta region.
He emphasized that Pa Clark was a widely respected figure whose life was marked by integrity, courage, and unwavering dedication to national development.
“His legacy is undeniable. In the Niger Delta today, there are few voices as strong and fearless as his. His book, Brutally Frank, reflects his sharp memory and boldness. He had an exceptional ability to recall family lineages and always spoke with courage.
“When we last spoke, he commended my performance as Governor and assured me that if I were not doing well, he would not hesitate to tell me. He never minced words and remained focused and articulate at all times,” Oborevwori added.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the late statesman’s eldest daughter, Rebecca Okorodudu, alongside her uncle, Prof. Collins Clark, and other relatives, expressed gratitude to the governor for his visit. She also reaffirmed their support for his administration’s policies and programs.
The governor signed the condolence register, while other dignitaries in attendance paid tribute to the late Ijaw leader, acknowledging his contributions and expressing their deep sense of loss.
