Governor Umo Eno has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in Akwa Ibom State.
The development was announced in a statement on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.
According to him, the Governor’s action is in accordance with the powers conferred on him by Section 6 of the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law 2023.
While appreciating the affected persons for their service to the state, Governor Eno instructed the outgoing chairmen and members to hand over all government property in their possession to the most senior civil servant in their respective boards or commissions.
“All statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions stand dissolved with immediate effect.
“The governor thanks the chairmen and members of those boards and commissions for their contributions to the ARISE Agenda and wishes them well in their future endeavours,” the statement read.
Naijaonpoint recalls that Eno recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the sack of the appointees could be interpreted as part of efforts to redefine political alignments in the state.
Recently, Governor Eno conducted a minor reshuffle of his cabinet.
The Governor redeployed Capt. Iniobong Ekong (Rtd) from the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning to the Ministry of Trade and Investment, while Dr. Ubong Inyang, who previously served in Trade and Investment, was reassigned to head the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning.
Alongside the reshuffle, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Land Matters, ESV. Udeme Daniel Isa, was relieved of his appointment with immediate effect.
