Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has sworn in the newly elected local government chairmen who emerged victorious in last Saturday’s just-concluded local government elections.
The elections saw the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sweeping all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Sunday afternoon, followed the issuance of certificates of return to the chairmen by the Chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission, Bala Aliyu Gusau.
Addressing the new chairmen during the ceremony, Governor Lawal commended the state electoral commission for conducting what he described as a “credible, free, and fair election.”
The governor reiterated his commitment to local government autonomy, describing it as crucial for effective grassroots development.
Lawal also urged the newly sworn-in chairmen to align with his administration’s seven-point agenda, emphasizing collaboration to deliver meaningful development to the people of Zamfara State.
“I urge you to form a formidable team and join my administration in working for the development of the state, especially in fulfilling my seven-point agenda,” Lawal said.
He called on them to remain in their respective local governments to acquaint themselves with their communities’ problems.
He said, “I want you to always remain in your domain and attend to the needs of your people.”
Governor Lawal thanked the people of the state for the support and cooperation they have been giving to his administration in its effort to change the narrative in the state.
“I want to thank the people for the continuous support and cooperation they have been giving to my administration in its quest for a prosperous Zamfara.
“I can assure you that I will do my very best to build a new state where every one of you will be proud of,” he averred.
