Governor’s wife’s convoy attacked, community speaks

The people of Muchila Ward in Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State have appealed to the Police and Department of State Services to investigate the attack on the convoy of the wife of the state Governor, Hajiya Lami Fintiri, in the area.

Sunday Mathew, Spokesperson for the community, made the call on Tuesday at a news conference in Yola.

Mathew, who spoke in the state capital, said the visit of the First Lady on February 4 was not a political activity, but on invitation by Catholic women for their congress.

According to him, a group of misguided young men violently attacked the convoy, destroying four vehicles, including a press crew van.

He said: “It is on this premise that we come together to call on the Commissioner of Police and Director, Department of State Security to carry out a full investigation.

“And to ensure that the perpetrators and their sponsors are brought to book to serve as deterrence to others.”

Mathew further called on the good people in the area and the victims to remain calm and be law abiding.

When contacted, the spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the attack.

Nguroje added that investigation into the matter was ongoing and assured that the law would deal with anyone involved in the attack.
