Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo‘s administration has declared Friday a work-free day for all civil servants ahead of the Anambra governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Awka by the Head of Service, Theodora Igwegbe.
Igwegbe explained that Governor Soludo approved the work-free day to allow civil servants to travel to their various communities to participate in the election.
“The work-free day was approved by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to enable civil servants to travel to their respective locations to participate in the election,” she said.
She added that the gesture was aimed at promoting active participation of the state’s workforce in the electoral process.
The Head of Service reminded civil servants that participation in elections remains a key contribution to good governance and democratic development.
“The electoral process is a civic duty and a vital contribution of the civil servants to good governance and democracy,” Igwegbe stated.
She further directed political appointees, permanent secretaries, and heads of ministries, departments and agencies to properly inform their staff and ensure full compliance with the work-free directive.
The governorship election is scheduled to hold across the 21 local government areas of the state on Saturday.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Nigeria Police Force has stepped up security preparations for the Saturday governorship election in Anambra State, deploying tactical teams, helicopters, and drones across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, November 2, 2025, in Awka.
The police mouthpiece noted that the deployment followed approval by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
“As part of ongoing efforts to guarantee safety and ensure a hitch-free governorship election in Anambra, the Police Command in the state has received the Force Headquarters Advance Tactical Teams deployed to strengthen the security architecture across the state,” Ikenga said.
According to Ikenga, the IGP’s approval is part of a broader operational plan aimed at reinforcing local formations with additional manpower and advanced technical support.
“The deployment includes helicopters and drones for aerial surveillance,” he stated. “It is designed to enhance the command’s capacity to ensure peace, safety, and free movement of voters before, during, and after the election.”
The measure, he added, aligns with the Force Headquarters’ strategic vision to maintain public confidence and ensure credible polls in collaboration with other security agencies.
Receiving the tactical teams in Awka, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the Inspector-General for his “unwavering commitment” to the safety of lives and property in Anambra.
