Green Arrow, Birds of Prey Cancellations Confirmed

December will mark a bittersweet moment for Justice League fans, as two beloved series are set to conclude, officially signaling the end of an era. News of the cancellations sparked an outpouring of disappointment across social media, with fans voicing their frustration over the loss. Still, there may be hope on the horizon.

DC Comics has recently announced the end of two beloved series: Chris Condon’s Green Arrow and Kelly Thompson’s Birds of Prey, both concluding this December. The December 3 release of Birds of Prey #28 by Thompson and Sami Basri will serve as its finale, while Green Arrow #31 by Condon and Osvaldo Pestana Montpeller will wrap up on December 24.

Thompson and Scott Snyder, one of DC’s head creative architects, took to their Substack and X accounts, respectively, to share the news and explain the reasoning behind the cancellations.

DC Cancels Green Arrow, But Absolute Green Arrow Is Still on the Horizon

On September 22, 2025, Snyder retweeted a post about the cancellation of the Green Arrow series, where a user wrote, “Deadass why is DC ending their best ongoing 💔💔.” Snyder replied, “…the honest reason is that not enough of us were buying it. The sales numbers on GA were just unsustainable,” confirming the disappointing reason behind the decision.

Snyder admitted the news was “disappointing to everyone,” but explained that continuing the series “means not being able to take other chances.” This statement is intriguing, as it hints at new opportunities on the horizon for Oliver Queen. That hope is supported by the hero’s upcoming Absolute title, which suggests DC has no plans of leaving the hero behind.

DC announced that its new Green Arrow will debut in this fall’s Absolute Evil one-shot, before launching his own ongoing series in the Darkseid-created universe titled Absolute Green Arrow, releasing next Spring. While one chapter for Oliver Queen is closing, another is already beginning, with the hope that it will drive stronger sales and finally secure his permanence.

DC Cancels Birds of Prey, But Kelly Thompson Is Fighting For Something Bigger & Better

Thompson used her Substack to confirm the end of Birds of Prey and clear up rumors. She addressed speculation that she ended the book due to being busy with other projects, firmly stating “that is just not the case.” Instead, Thompson explained that DC suggested the series needed to be canceled, making it a publisher-led decision rather than her own.

She revealed that she pitched a “light reboot” of Birds of Prey, and while DC was receptive, both sides agreed it was ultimately best to pull the plug. Still, Thompson teased that she is developing another major pitch at DC involving a couple of the Birds. Hence, there is a glimmer of hope for both fans of Birds of Prey and Green Arrow.
