By all appearances, Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track for its current release date of November 19, 2026, but the status of its online component is a lot less clear. While a successor to GTA Online seems like a predictable component of the next franchise installment, Rockstar hasn’t offered any word about when to expect one.

According to the latest leak, however, we might not have to wait long at all to see GTA 6‘s online component hit the market. It’s far from an official confirmation, but that isn’t stopping some fans of the franchise from getting excited.

GTA Online Might Launch Shortly After GTA 6

X user TheGhostOfHope claimed today that “the current plan for GTA 6 is to launch online within a month after the release of the game,” meaning that the next iteration of Grand Theft Auto Online should theoretically arrive before Christmas. The rumor doesn’t come with any special backing, however. TheGhostOfHope simply claims to have heard the news from “someone,” and disclaims that it’s “up to you guys if you want to believe.”

For context, TheGhostOfHope is primarily a Call of Duty leaker, giving them a somewhat indirect source of credibility. While they’ve been right about Call of Duty in the past, GTA 6 leaks are a little further outside their typical wheelhouse, so this particular report should be taken with a grain of salt.

It’s Hard To Know For Sure

There’s a strong precedent for Grand Theft Auto Online to release within a month of GTA 6, as it would follow the same model as the last go-round. GTA 5 released on September 17, 2013, and GTA Online launched on October 1. If Rockstar repeats that schedule, fans might only have to wait two weeks after the single-player launch to take their misadventures online.

To date, however, the community hasn’t seemed very confident that GTA 6‘s online component will arrive that quickly. Between GTA 6‘s repeated delays and the continued momentum of GTA 5‘s online component, plenty of people have assumed that it might be a matter of multiple months before the next online iteration dawns.

If there is any truth to TheGhostOfHope’s leak, we might start to see more rumors or clues in support of the idea in the near future. As always, though, Rockstar is attempting to keep Grand Theft Auto 6 close to the chest, so it’ll be hard to know for sure until an official announcement about the future of GTA Online finally rolls around.
