A new image from Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein has finally revealed a full look at Jacob Elordi as the core monster ahead of its Netflix premiere. The story of Frankenstein is similar to Mary Shelley’s original 1818 novel, featuring Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) bringing a humanoid Creature (Elordi) to life, causing the pair to fall into mutually assured chaos.
Now, Netflix has released a full image of Elordi as the monster in Frankenstein, the closest look at the monster so far. The image showcases his scarred rendition of The Creature, its presentation similar to how it was featured in Shelley’s original work. It’s a far cry from the horror monster Universal’s 1931 movie popularized. Check out the image below:
The depiction of The Creature in del Toro’s version of the story is clearly leaning more toward the intelligent rendition of the novel. While the popular version of the character is an undead, unthinking monster, the original version is more introspective — hence the novel’s subtitle, The Modern Prometheus. This description appears to apply more to del Toro’s take.
As depicted in the trailers for the film, the cast of Frankenstein will all be dealing with the consequences of The Creature being given life and intelligence. While Elordi’s monster will be a subject for Frankenstein and those around him, the creation will also be a character of key importance. His perspective will still triumph throughout the film.
Based on reviews for Frankenstein, the story is going to have plenty of terrors throughout, but also offer a sympathetic look at the monster, which was brought into existence without any thought to the wider repercussions. With the movie currently playing in select theaters and reviews still positive, the film seems poised for success when it arrives on Netflix.
The Creature has already become a key role within Elordi’s acting career as well. The star won a Vanguard Tribute at the 2025 Gotham Awards alongside del Toro and Isaac. Other major awards the film has already won include Issac getting the Icon Award at Savannah Film Festival and the movie winning the Fanheart3 Award – Graffetta d’Oro for Best Film at VIFF.
With the broader reveal of Elordi’s Creature now available, it’s a good sign that Frankenstein will maintain its faithfulness to the source material when it arrives. While del Toro likely has a number of ideas that’ll help differentiate the movie from others like it, the design of The Creature is a big step to making this adaptation stand out.
