The Oyo State command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the abduction of four persons along the Igbeti-Kishi Road in the Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State.
The incident was confirmed on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade.
According to him, the abduction prompted immediate security action, with the Commissioner of Police ordering the deployment of personnel to the affected area.
Ayanlade disclosed that the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officers of Kishi and Igbeti divisions to mobilise officers to the scene after reports of the abduction were received.
He added that tactical units had also been deployed to strengthen the rescue operation and track down the suspected kidnappers.
An officer of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Operation Amotekun and simply known as the Amotekun, who spoke to Naijaonpoint on condition of anonymity, confirmed there was an attack on the axis by unidentified individuals.
He also confirmed that security operatives swung into action to comb the reserves.
“The Commissioner of Police immediately directed the Divisional Police Officers of Kishi and Igbeti divisions, supported by other tactical teams, to deploy necessary operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators,” Ayanlade said in his statement.
The police spokesperson explained that security operatives had intensified search efforts across the surrounding forests and neighbouring communities where the abductors might be hiding.
He noted that intelligence gathering had also been stepped up to support the ongoing operation aimed at locating the victims and apprehending those responsible.
Ayanlade urged residents and members of the public to remain calm while security agencies continue the rescue efforts.
He also appealed for credible information that could assist the police and other security agencies in tracking the suspects.
According to him, such cooperation from the public could play a crucial role in ensuring the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.
