Unidentified gunmen have killed the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, Yayough Aondoakaa.

Naijaonpoint understands that the incident, which took place on Friday at Wannune Market, has instilled fear and confusion within the community.

According to Daily Post, eyewitnesses confirmed that the attackers, who arrived at the market on motorbikes, inquired about Aondoakaa’s location before fatally shooting him at close range.

Local residents disclosed that this was not the first assassination attempt against him.

In a previous attack last year, his wife was tragically killed in what seemed to be a botched effort to take his life.

However, authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the development as of the time of filing this report, as investigations are reportedly underway.

Meanwhile, one individual has sustained injuries, and sixty-two houses have been destroyed following an attack by suspected herders on farming communities in the Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Naijaonpoint learnt that a dispute regarding access to a water source triggered this assault.

The water source, a pond situated between the villages of Tor Bali and Atongo, has become a point of contention between the Tiv farming communities and the Fulani herders.

As stated by the chairman of the Bali Local Government Area, Aboki Dauda, peace was disrupted when a woman approached the pond to collect water and encountered a cow competing for the same resource.

Subsequently, she was reportedly assaulted by the herders.

The woman later raised an alarm about the incident, which elicited responses from members of her community.
