A Dangote truck driver and a woman have been killed by suspected criminal militia along the Kyado–Jootar road in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The two victims were reportedly found inside the truck during a night patrol by troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE.
The incident occurred around midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, according to a security source who spoke to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Troops were conducting a night patrol along the route when they came across the Dangote truck at Igbayima.
The vehicle, with registration number OPL-1B-029, contained the bodies of the deceased.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the victims had been shot by suspected criminal elements operating in the area.
Security sources linked the attack to a militia gang allegedly involved in kidnapping and other criminal activities along the route.
Eleven empty casings of 7.62mm Special ammunition were recovered from the scene. The discovery suggested that firearms had been used in the attack.
The identity of the woman remained unknown as of the time of filing this report. Authorities have also not disclosed why she was travelling in the truck or whether she was a passenger.
Following the discovery, troops evacuated the bodies to a mortuary in Kyado.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, who are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killings.
Security forces have launched efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The Kyado–Jootar axis has remained a security concern, with motorists and other travellers facing the threat of attacks and kidnapping.
The latest incident has renewed concerns about the safety of commercial vehicles using the route, particularly at night.
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE are expected to intensify patrols and other security measures in the area as efforts continue to prevent further attacks.
Authorities are also expected to use the recovered ammunition casings and other evidence from the scene to assist investigations and trace the suspected attackers.
