Half-Life 3 Announcement Speculated for November 18th

Over the years, Half-Life 3 has become more of a long-running joke than a serious prediction, but it’s starting to look like it could actually be real again. This year, several rumors and reports have suggested that it could actually be nearing release, although most fans remain cautious about getting their hopes too high. Now, one fan has come up with a plausible theory for why an announcement could arrive this very month.

Reddit user sameseksure argues that Half-Life 3 might be announced on November 18, based on an unusually long gap between Steam Events during that time. Valve uses the top banner of the Steam store, and carving out that window could mean that the banner will be used to advertise a new game this month. Valve announced Half-Life: Alyx on November 18, 2019, so the timing for another big reveal would line up perfectly.

Everything Is Starting To Line Up

Sameseksure’s argument hinges on the change to Steam’s sale schedule this year, which pushed the Steam Autumn Sale up from November to September. As commenter greenstormy1 points out, Valve explained the change as a way to space out Steam sales more evenly, so there’s no reason to assume it was moved to free up space for Half-Life 3 in November. Nonetheless, the fact remains that Steam will have the advertising space to work with this month.

Half-Life 3 speculation is always met with a healthy dose of skepticism, and not every fan is on board with this new theory. It makes a lot more sense than most, though, and the top comments tend to reflect that sentiment. SjurEido breaks down the timeline leading up to this point, with the report of a trailer in progress, the Steam sale schedule change, a cryptic video, and more lining up to present a convincing case. 1000-7 sums up the common sentiment in a more straightforward way, simply saying “actual logic here.”

Half-Life 3 Speculation Should Be Taken With A Grain Of Salt

Predictions Have Been Wrong For Decades

I’m still not willing to place too much stock in this kind of Half-Life 3 speculation, but this one does admittedly make sense. Although the Steam Sale being repositioned might have nothing to do with Half-Life 3, if there was ever a time that an announcement would make sense, this month fits the bill.

Either way, it should only be ten days before we find out if sameseksure’s prediction is accurate. In the wake of GTA 6‘s latest delay, Half-Life 3 could be the perfect place to channel all the hype that currently lacks a home.
