Paul Onuachu, who impressed during his season-long loan move to Trabzonspor from Southampton, has made a return on a permanent move…
Former Nigeria international Dominic Iorfa has expressed strong confidence that Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu will rediscover his scoring touch following his permanent move to Turkish giants Trabzonspor, Soccernet.ng reports.
Per Reuters, Onuachu recently sealed a €5.6 million switch from English side Southampton, signing a three-year deal with Trabzonspor after a successful loan spell last season.
The towering forward had endured a frustrating time in England, managing just four goals in 40 appearances for the Saints before returning to Turkey.
Speaking to Footy Africa, Iorfa—who once played for Galatasaray in the Turkish Süper Lig—believes Onuachu is well-placed to revive his career at Trabzonspor, where he remains a fan favourite.
“Paul is a good player and I believe he will do well in Turkey with Trabzonspor, where he has already proven himself,” Iorfa said. “It’s unfortunate it didn’t work out for him in Southampton, but that doesn’t take away from his ability. Football has its ups and downs, but the key is to keep going.”
During his first stint with Trabzonspor, Onuachu earned the admiration of the Trabzonspor fans, having netted 17 goals in 25 appearances.
When asked if the 31-year-old can match or beat his old record, the former Queens Park Rangers striker was clear with his response.
“Definitely, I believe he can do it. He’s done it before, so there’s no reason he can’t do it again.
“In fact, I think he can even be better. He’s got Premier League experience now, and that will help him. The fans in Turkey already love him, and that kind of support is crucial. I’m confident he’ll get back to scoring goals regularly.”
Trabzonspor will be counting on Onuachu’s goal-scoring prowess as they prepare for the new Süper Lig season, which kicks off in August.
