Four new actors have joined Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming Highlander remake starring Henry Cavill. This comes after Highlander was delayed due to an injury that Cavill sustained before filming began. Production was pushed back to an early 2026 start after the remake of the 1986 cult classic film was previously scheduled to begin in September.

Along with Cavill, who is playing the leading role of immortal warrior Connor MacLeod, Highlander‘s star-studded cast includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, and Marisa Abela. Crowe and Hounsou’s involvement marks a reunion more than two decades after their roles in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000).

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Highlander‘s cast now also includes Kevin McKidd, Siobhán Cullen, Jun Jong-seo, and Nassim Lyes.

McKidd’s role remains under wraps, but he is experienced in the fantasy genre, having previously played Poseidon in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, along with voicing Lord MacGuffin in Pixar’s Brave and the Mandalorian warrior Fenn Rau in Star Wars Rebels. He is also known for his roles in Rome and Grey’s Anatomy.

As for the other newcomers, Cullen’s character is a police psychiatrist who learns about immortal beings and wants to help Cavill’s character. Cullen has starred in Netflix’s Bodkin and Hulu’s Obituary.

Jong-seo’s character is part of the Watcher sect and Lyes is an immortal individual who is after MacLeod. Previous credits for Jong-seo include Burning, South Korea’s first movie to make the Academy Awards’ shortlist for Best Foreign Language Film, while Lyes starred in Netflix’s Under Paris.

Cullen’s character won’t be MacLeod’s only ally, as Crowe plays Ramirez, a swordsman who is the protagonist’s mentor and friend. Gillan plays MacLeod’s wife, but unlike him, she is mortal.

Jong-seo’s character will likely interact with Irons, as he leads the Watchers, who watch immortals like MacLeod and see them as a threat. Hounsou plays another immortal warrior.

Lyes’ character sounds like they will be a villain, probably one in a supporting role. The primary villain of the fantasy movie is The Kurgan, who is played by Bautista.

With so many of the key characters now cast and early 2026 fast approaching, production will soon begin. The movie is slated for a theatrical release and is directed by Chad Stalheski, who is best known for directing the four John Wick movies led by Keanu Reeves in the titular role.

Since filming is beginning in early 2026, Highlander will probably come to theaters in 2027 or 2028. Depending on how the film performs, it could lead to more installments, becoming Cavill’s next major franchise, and an opportunity for his fellow cast members to reprise their roles over the course of multiple projects.
