Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen just joined Galatasaray this summer despite links to clubs in the top five leagues

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has commended Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for choosing to join Galatasaray despite being linked to other bigger clubs, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen’s year-long transfer saga ended last week, with the Super Eagles striker joining Turkish giants Galatasaray in the most expensive transfer deal in Turkish history.

Recall that he played there last season after failing to transfer to a big club last summer and Napoli dumped him out of their plans for the season.

During his loan stint at the club, he was superb, as he led Galatasaray to the Super Lig title and the Turkish Cup after an impressive return of 37 goals and eight assists.

So, at the end of the campaign, the Cimbom made it clear that they wanted to sign Osimhen permanently this summer. Meanwhile, he was linked to multiple top clubs in Europe. Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal also tabled a bumper package to convince him to join them.

The issue continued to drag on until last week, when he decided to commit to Galatasaray, signing a four-year deal.

After it was completed, there were talks that Osimhen actually had offers from top European clubs, but he snubbed them for Galatasaray.

Now, in a related development, Souness, one of the greatest midfielders of all time, has spoken about Osimhen’s issue. He believes the former Lille man made the right choice by joining Galatasaray.

“Some players value affection, some don’t. Victor Osimhen had a great season and was loved. If being loved is important to you and you want to feel it, Galatasaray is the right place,” Souness told Futboo.

“Osimhen is very lucky to have had this experience at such a young age. He could have done well elsewhere, but would he be this happy?

“The fans love him, he’s on good terms with Okan Buruk, he knows the team. He’s positive in every way.”

Souness had 359 appearances for Liverpool, with 55 goals and 40 assists to his name. He also played for Middlesbrough, Sampdoria, and Rangers.

Victor Osimhen has to deliver for Galatasaray next season

The Turkish Super Lig season is already upon us, and Galatasaray will be looking to defend their domestic titles.

The club has invested heavily this summer, and they won’t be looking for just domestic success next season.

They will also want to do well in the UEFA Champions League, at least challenge for a place in the round of 16.

Victor Osimhen will be their talisman, as he will lead the charge in attack. Galatasaray will be hoping he outdoes himself next season.
