Homelander Joins The DC Universe in DC K.O.

That’s right, Homelander is confirmed for an upcoming crossover, and it sets up a battle that superhero fans have been waiting to see. This year’s New York Comic Con was filled with plenty of surprising announcements, but none more than the revelation that The Boys’ most well-known Supe is heading to a new universe for a hell of a battle.

During DC Comics’ “Jim Lee and Friends” panel, panel guest Scott Snyder, writer of DC’s current fall event, DC K.O., revealed some major news. Namely, that there would be some special guests appearing as part of a ‘bonus level’ of the competition after DC’s heroes open up a pocket dimension to spar with icons from all across the greater multiverse.

Sub-Zero from the Mortal Kombat franchise, The Conjuring’s haunted Annabelle doll, Red Sonja, Vampirella, and even Samantha, the main character of Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, will be part of the fracas. But most amazingly, Homelander will be there as well, setting up the very real possibility of a canonical fight between The Boys’ central antagonist and Superman.

DC K.O. is an event published by DC that focuses on the heroes preventing an invasion by the powerful New God, Darkseid. To defeat their foe, the heroes (and a few villains) are competing in a single-elimination tournament that will bestow the winner with cosmic power. And no one in this competition is as invested in stopping Darkseid as Superman.

Aside from the shock of this unexpected crossover, this is a bold inclusion on DC’s part. Homelander is, after all, heavily inspired by the Man of Steel and by all accounts is one of the most infamous riffs on the ‘evil Superman’ trope. And due to their similarities, fans have always wondered how an actual fight between them would go.

Admittedly, this wild assortment of characters could make for a number of interesting battles. But Homelander fighting Superman is a debate fans have had for years, and it’s only gotten worse since the television adaptation of The Boys bolstered Homelander’s popularity. Now is the perfect opportunity to give fans a battle that they’ll never be able to see otherwise.

Granted, Superman would almost certainly level Homelander in an instant. But that doesn’t mean fans still don’t want to see a canonical confrontation between these two. Hopefully, fate will be bringing these two together and fans will finally see Homelander go toe-to-toe with the hero who inspired his existence in the first place.
