According to a new report, HONOR could actually launch its first tri-fold smartphone at IFA next year. This information comes from Teme, a tipster who shared it on X.

That’s not all he said, however. He also added that neither OPPO nor Vivo have plans to launch a tri-fold smartphone at the moment. That’s not to say things won’t change quickly, but as things stand now, don’t expect to see one such device from them anytime soon.
Many of you know that Huawei launched the world’s first tri-fold smartphone earlier this month. The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is its name. It launched in China, and it’s coming to global markets in Q1 2025.
With that being said, HONOR is looking to compete with its ex-parent company. HONOR is actually rumored to be preparing a tri-fold smartphone that is only 10mm thick. We’re not sure if that’s even possible, but that’s the rumor.
The Huawei Mate XT is 12.8mm thick when fully folded. That seems unrealistically thin for a tri-fold, but there you go. That makes this smartphone only barely thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The HONOR Magic V3 is currently the thinnest & lightest book-style foldable
One of HONOR’s smartphones is currently holding the title of the thinnest book-style foldable smartphone. The device’s name is the HONOR Magic V3, and it launched globally at this year’s IFA.
That phone is 9.2mm or 9.3mm thick when folded, depending on the model. That is very, very thin for a foldable, needless to say. Well, if today’s rumor is true, HONOR could up the ante once again at next year’s IFA, a year after the Magic V3’s launch.
Both Samsung and Xiaomi are also rumored to be working on a tri-fold smartphone. We’re not sure when their offerings will arrive, however. It’s not clear whether HONOR will be second in line after Huawei, or will one of these two companies manage to trump it.
