The Game of Thrones HBO prequel series House of the Dragon is officially gearing up for its Season 3 launch in June 2026, and fans of the franchise are eager to see what’s in store. With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms releasing to critical acclaim and even being renewed for a second season, it’s an exciting time to be a Game of Thrones fan.
But there’s even more on the way for fans of the franchise, as Game of Thrones will be getting a brand-new release alongside the Season 3 launch this summer. The official new House of the Dragon spin-off called Dragonfire takes place in the same timeline as the HBO television series, and will give fans a completely new experience through the eyes of the Valyrians (via Collider).
Game Of Thrones: Dragonfire Releases This Summer
Game of Thrones: Dragonfire is an official new mobile strategy game from Warner Bros. Games set in Westeros during the same time period as House of the Dragon, and it will be launching as a free-to-play game this summer alongside the HBO show’s Season 3 release. Dragonfire is available to pre-register for now on the App store and Google Play.
Dragonfire is touted as “a modern, approachable social strategy experience where tactical warfare, territorial expansion and the unrivaled power of dragons combine to redefine how players battle for control of the Seven Kingdoms.” The game is inspired by events in House of the Dragon, and tells a completely new narrative “as a Valyrian descendant tasked with hatching, raising and flying dragons.”
The game will feature characters from the beloved HBO show as well as completely new, unmet characters in the GoT universe.Players will be able to “form alliances and factions with other players, as well as engage in tactical battles to become a true dragonrider and dominant force in Westeros.”
A Perfect Game Ahead Of New House Of The Dragon Season
While Game of Thrones fans have had a long history of somewhat disappointing games, the House of the Dragon spin-off is a great opportunity for fans of the show to dive deeper into the universe and experience original new characters and storylines. That said, there’s so much untapped potential in terms of Game of Thrones games, and another mobile game isn’t exactly what most fans have been keeping their fingers crossed for.
Game of Thrones has released several mobile games over the years that, while beloved by a niche audience, don’t do the IP justice. Dragonfire has a unique premise, somewhat promising gameplay, and will be appealing to diehard fans of House of the Dragon, but most gamers interested in Game of Thrones are eager for some sort of open-world RPG in Westeros that’s faithful to George R.R. Martin’s universe.
