Houston teacher arrest came as a result of her having adult relationships with the kids.
Former Houston ISD teacher Destinie Hillsman was charged for improper relationship with a student and indecent behavior with a child after allegedly having relationships with two different middle school students.
At her court appearance Wednesday night, the judge set her bond at $55,000 total for the two charges.
Hillsman was dismissed from Holland Middle School last August when investigations into her inappropriate behavior began.
In response to Hillsman’s charges, the school district released a statement emphasizing the importance of maintaining professional boundaries between teachers and their students.
According to Hatfield’s report on ABC 13, Hillsman is accused of repeatedly assaulting a 13-year-old student during the summer of 2022.
The teacher allegedly took the student to various locations, such as the mall, a waterpark, and a movie, before bringing the student to Hillsman’s home, where they got into bed together.
The encounter reportedly turned s*xual as Hillsman kissed and touched the student inappropriately. Hillsman and the student also allegedly exchanged “I love you” texts during this time.
In addition to the 13-year-old victim, charging documents indicate that Hillsman also exchanged inappropriate s*xual texts with a 14-year-old victim.
Hillsman reportedly told police that both she and the student were to blame for the relationship. Hillsman was fired by HISD on August 24, 2022, but her teaching license is still under review by the Texas Education Agency.
