Huawei just announced two new high-end MatePad tablets

Huawei MatePad Pro 2024 3

Huawei has just announced two new flagship tablets as part of the MatePad family. The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2-inch and MatePad 12X have arrived. Yes, the company categorizes both as ‘flagship’ offerings. The ‘Pro’ is the flagship model, though.

Two flagship Huawei MatePad tablets are here, including the ‘MatePad Pro 12.2-inch PaperMatte Edition’

Let’s start things off with the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2-inch PaperMatte Edition. The company did not really share a ton of info via its press release, but let’s see what it contains. This tablet has a Tandem OLED PaperMatte Display.

That display repels glare with ease, and it’s a 12.2-inch panel, of course. This display also gets up to 2,000 nits of brightness, which is more than enough, needless to say. It is a 144Hz panel. The resolution is 2800 x 1840. High-frequency PWM dimming is also a part of the package (2,880Hz), as is HDR support.

The display offers a “paper-like visual experience”

This display combines “advanced anti-sparkle and nanoscale anti-glare etching technologies” in order to ensure a paper-like visual experience, says the company. It also comes with the Huawei Glide Keyboard, which features a 2-in-1 stylus and keyboard storage and charging design. That stylus has 16,384 pressure sensing levels.

Huawei also included a GoPaint app on this tablet, which contains a wide range of digital creation tools. The FanTian Painting Engine 2.0 supports 8K ultra-large canvas and professional-grade tools for artists.

Needless to say, this tablet is very thin, and it does come with thin bezels too. Two cameras sit on the back of it, inside a single camera island. A 13-megapixel main camera is backed by an 8-megapixel “intelligent sensing camera”.

Heat dissipation has been improved

Heat dissipation has been improved too. The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2-inch PaperMatte Edition features a “custom 8-driver
array speakers and a largest-ever 3.5 cc rear chamber”.

This tablet weighs 508 grams, and it’s only 5.5mm thick. Huawei claims that this is the lightest 12-inch tablet in the industry, and the company is probably spot on in that regard.

It supports 100W Huawei SuperCharge charging, and comes with a 10,100mAh battery. Huawei says you can fully recharge this battery in only 55 minutes.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2-inch PaperMatte Edition will launch internationally starting from today. The 256GB variant of the tablet will start at £699.99, while the 512GB model will start at £799.99. Yes, the keyboard is included.

The Huawei MatePad 12 X is a “lightweight flagship model”

What about the Huawei MatePad 12 X? Well, the company categorizes this product as its new “lightweight flagship model”. Huawei says that this tablet is “designed for the younger generation”.

Huawei used the Shimmery Pearlescent Sheen here, which results in a metallic white with color-changing effects based on lighting. This tablet offers an all-metal build, by the way.

This tablet will also be available in a ‘PaperMatte Edition’, with an ultra-bright PaperMatte Display. That’s basically everything Huawei said about it in the provided press release. You can check out its design below, though. This tablet weighs 555 grams, and it’s 5.9mm thick.

The Huawei Matepad 12 X also launches internationally today and starts at £549.99. This model includes 512GB of storage, and comes with a keyboard accessory.
