Do you guys remember that company named Humane? It developed the ill-fated AI Pin that was a huge flop with reviewers. Well, the company isn’t dead yet, as it just made a pretty big announcement. Humane has it CosmOS operating system, and it wants to distribute it to pretty much every device.
The AI Pin was a physical AI device. Despite being pinned to people’s chests, it just couldn’t capture their hearts. Soon after the company launched the device, it was mobbed with negative reviews and boatloads of buyers returned their units. The Humane AI Pin was a flop, and this led the CEO to search around for someone to buy the company. That was a few months ago, and Humane has been radio-silent since then.
Humane wants to put its CosmOS operating system on your devices
It looks like Humane has gone the same route as Blackberry and Sega. It just couldn’t hack it as a hardware developer, so it’s focusing on Software. The company just released a video showcasing its AI-powered operating System called CosmOS. In the lengthy video, we see the company’s dream for a completely integrated ecosystem of AI services.
Just from the video, we know that Humane wants to put this OS on your phone, car infotainment system, smart TV, smart speaker, smart home, smartwatch, and more. We see the person in the video driving home and talking to CosmOS through his car. He asked it to integrate with his smart home system and adjust the temperature.
Once he’s home, we then see him using CosmOS with his smart speaker and with his phone. On his phone, he asked it to read an email, check his calendar, and enroll for an event.
Next, he went to his TV which was displaying a soccer game. He asked CosmOS how many goals the person on the screen scored, and CosmOS was able to identify the player and pull up their stats.
Only a concept
All in all, it seems like CosmOS will be an extremely powerful and integrated AI ecosystem. It will revolutionize AI as we know it. Just like Gemini, ChatGPT, Apple Intelligence… and every other AI dream promised to the masses.
Here’s the deal, this video only showcases the company’s ambitions. It doesn’t show what the operating system can do. It’s just a concept for the time being. This means that CosmOS still in the same boat full of unfulfilled potential. We’re just not at that stage in AI development where we can have an AI agent run our lives. Humane is aiming for the stars with CosmOS, but there’s no telling when it’s going to take off.
If Humane is talking about integrating its operating system into devices, then it will have to partner with a ton of popular OEMs to load its software. That’s along with training the models, developing the software, and other pains of making an AI operating system. So, what we saw in the video won’t happen for quite some time.
