ABUJA — Former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University and ex-Senator representing Benue North East, Prof. Daniel Saror, has advised Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to reconcile with Senator George Akume in order to strengthen the state’s political stability.
In a recent interview with Vanguard on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Saror said Akume has remained a dominant figure in Benue politics for over two decades and continues to command a significant following across the state.
According to him, it is important for Governor Alia to maintain peace with the former governor while continuing to focus on governance and service delivery to the people.
Saror emphasized that resolving political differences should not prevent the governor from pursuing development projects and improving the welfare of citizens.
He also noted that political leaders should prioritize collaboration for the common good, warning that prolonged political disagreements could hinder progress and allow the control of public resources by a few individuals.
The former vice chancellor encouraged Governor Alia to sustain his development initiatives while refining his leadership style, stressing that effective governance requires a balance between reconciliation and progress.
Saror further highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation in politics, urging leaders to place the welfare of the people above personal or political differences.
“Personally, I would advise our governor to make peace with Akume because Akume has been the leader of politics in Benue State for the last 24–25 years. He has a strong following, but it should not be a situation where one individual controls the resources meant for the common good of the people,” he said.
