The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, October 9, described himself as a “golden minister”, declaring that his tenure coincides with a historic milestone in the life of the nation’s capital.
Naijaonpoint reports that Wike, who served as Governor of Rivers State when the state celebrated its 50th anniversary, noted that he is now privileged to oversee the FCT as it prepares to clock 50 next February 2026.
The minister made the remarks in Abuja during the flag-off of the Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) project, linking Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way), including Road ILS 5, within Katampe District.
Speaking further, Wike said the coincidence of his leadership during the two golden jubilees was proof of divine favour, urging others not to envy his fortune.
“Some of us have been very lucky. We are golden governors and now golden ministers. It’s not everybody that will be that lucky,” he said.
“I was governor when Rivers State clocked 50 years, and now I am minister when the FCT will celebrate its 50th anniversary. That means God really loves us.”
Wike added that the occasion was symbolic, describing it as a reminder that leadership opportunities were not determined by human effort alone.
“You may sit on my seat, but that does not mean you are specially loved the way I am loved by God,” the FCT Minister joked, drawing laughter from the crowd.
The minister also called on residents and contractors to give their best to ensure Abuja’s 50th anniversary is marked with significant infrastructure achievements.
“So please, do all you can so that when Abuja attains the golden age of 50 years, it will be remembered that we delivered on key projects,” he said.
Wike reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to completing major road and housing projects across the FCT before the anniversary celebration.
The Collector Road CN2 project, expected to ease traffic flow and link key arterial routes in Katampe District, is one of several infrastructure developments the FCT Administration plans to complete ahead of the 2026 golden jubilee.
