The confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and a naval officer at a disputed land site in Abuja has sparked a new online war between activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, and social media commentator, Joe Igbokwe.
Naijaonpoint reports that the altercation, which went viral on Tuesday, showed Wike accusing the officer of blocking his access to the property, prompting mixed reactions across social media platforms.
While some Nigerians defended the minister for asserting civil authority, others sided with the military officer, arguing that Wike’s approach was unnecessarily confrontational.
Reacting to the incident, Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), took to his official Facebook page to demand disciplinary action against the naval officer.
He questioned the chain of command behind the officer’s authority, saying, “Who gave this soldier the audacity to block a serving minister? He should be dismissed immediately.”
Igbokwe’s statement, however, did not sit well with Adeyanju, who swiftly fired back in a scathing Facebook post.
Adeyanju Hits Back: ‘Stop Hustling For Appointment’
In his response, Adeyanju accused Igbokwe of seeking political favour, writing, “Dear Joe Igbokwe, appointment is finished already. Stop the hustling except you want to replace this cameraman. Doing media aide in old age is actually crazy. Old data boys.”
Adeyanju’s jab reignited political tension on social media, with users weighing in on both sides of the argument.
Unwilling to let the comment slide, Igbokwe returned to Adeyanju’s comment section to issue a stern warning.
He wrote, “Deji, you do not know me and I do not know you. The only thing I know about you is that you are an emergency activist. I have been a well-made man for over 30 years.”
The veteran politician further asserted his seniority and credibility, saying, “I started activism in the University of Nigeria Nsukka in the 80s. It is more than 40 years, Deji. Young man, I am not looking for anything anymore from anybody. I am not your mate. Ignorance is a terrible disease.”
Igbokwe also challenged Adeyanju to research his background, adding, “Check my background, ask questions, seek information, go and read my five books and you will know me. A good product sells itself.”
