THE Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy, Daniel Bwala, has admitted that his past criticisms of the administration were purely because he was in opposition as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in an interview today, Bwala explained that his role in the opposition required him to hold the government accountable. However, he said his views changed after meeting Tinubu, leading to his appointment as a presidential adviser.
Before his appointment, Bwala had been a vocal critic of Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election, alleging that the election was rigged.
He had previously claimed that the President would struggle with moral legitimacy for 240 days of his tenure due to electoral malpractice.
In a post on X, he had accused eminent scholars, human rights activists, and opinion leaders of clandestinely supporting Tinubu for cultural and tribal reasons.
During an interview in May 2023, he described Tinubu as a “president-select” rather than a “president-elect,” arguing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) manipulated the election results.
Bwala maintained that the PDP won the election, claiming that if results had been accurately recorded, the party would have won by over one million votes. He insisted that history and posterity would judge the outcome of the election.
