Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim-Effiong has revealed that he always prays before performing kissing scenes in movies.
He said his faith guides his career decisions and that he seeks God’s direction before taking on romantic roles.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, Etim-Effiong explained that many Nollywood producers include kissing scenes in their films because they appeal to viewers and attract more attention.
He said the practice follows market demand, as audiences often enjoy romantic displays in movies, Naijaonpoint reports.
The actor, who has faced public criticism for his frequent romantic roles, stated that his main focus remains on his purpose and craft.
He described acting as a calling and a form of worship, saying that his work allows him to tell meaningful stories that inspire others.
Etim-Effiong, who switched from engineering to filmmaking, shared that his family and faith keep him grounded.
He added that prayer gives him peace and clarity, especially when performing roles that require physical intimacy on screen.
He said: “The fact that I play a lot of romantic roles in the industry today means that I get to have kissing scenes sometimes. People feel it’s become one too many, but the question should go to the producers. Why are they expressing affection and intimacy only a certain way? There are several other ways you can show affection. There are downsides to everything, but when you’re a focused person, you don’t let naysayers get to you. You just focus on your business and do what you have to do.
“I get all my inspiration from God. I go on my knees and pray before I go to set and kiss. My family is my garden, then my work.
“It becomes a purpose to me, and that’s why I had the courage to quit engineering, a well-paying job, to go into storytelling. It felt like a calling. I have no problem acting and telling stories that inspire people; it’s a form of worship.”
