Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has set tongues wagging with a bold declaration ahead of the 2027 general elections: Watch What Happened.
he will only support candidates who openly back President Bola Tinubu, regardless of party affiliation.
Speaking in Abuja, Wike made it crystal clear that his political allegiance is not tied to any party, but to individuals who endorse the president’s leadership and agenda. “As it is today, my party seems to have not learned, and I am also going to support the President for a second term in office,” he said, emphasizing that his stance has always been public and consistent.
Wike revealed that his decision was partly influenced by his ministerial appointment, noting that his party never consulted him on the candidates it intended to present. “I didn’t beat around the bush when I said that as a minister, my party never asked me about the candidates they were planning to put forward, and I made it clear that I would only support candidates who backed the President,” he explained.
He further stressed that this is not unconditional support for any political party. “I never said I would support that particular party, but I did say I would support candidates who are in favour of the President, regardless of which party they are from,” Wike added.
Critics who call this anti-party behavior were firmly dismissed. “That’s where I’m going to focus my support. So the problem of me being part of a group that’s working for another group doesn’t come up,” he said.
