Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen was in good spirits after scoring a hat-trick against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League last night, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old’s trio now makes him the competition’s top scorer with six goals, above the likes of Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Lautaro Martinez.

Prior to the clash at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Osimhen had broken the record for the most goals by a Nigerian in the Champions League.

Following his goals last night, he smashed Obafemi Martins’ record (23), becoming the Super Eagles player with the most goals across all European competitions (25).

Galatasaray prepared well – Osimhen

After the game last night, Okan Buruk’s side have now sealed four wins from their last five games, and the ex-Napoli man was pleased their plan came to fruition.

“I generally think we deserve it,” the one-time Scudetto winner said in quotes revealed by Galatasaray’s official website.

“We knew what the opponent would do. We’re mentally well-prepared and psychologically well-prepared.

“I’m also very happy about the goals, of course, but I’d like to thank my teammates again.

“We’re going to put it on top of that pace. I believe that we will be very happy at the end of the Champions League group phase, and we will continue to work together.”

With six goals from three games, Osimhen is the leading goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League. Quizzed if he can go all the way to win the competition’s golden boot, the former LOSC Lille striker said:

“Of course, I think I have the quality for something like that, but with the support of my teammates, I can do it.

“They like to give me the ball like they did today. It’s a team struggle, and I believe that with my teammates, it’s a possibility with their support. I will fight for it,” he concluded.
