A mild drama played out in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Sunday during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the installation of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as the ‘Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua’.

The moment, captured in a viral video, saw Senator Tinubu interrupt Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as he delivered his remarks at the high-profile event.

In the video circulating online, Governor Adeleke was seen singing mid-speech to the amusement of the crowd, when Senator Tinubu approached the podium and, in a low tone, urged him to wrap up.

“I’ll give you five minutes to conclude your speech. Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone,” the First Lady was heard saying.

The event, held in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, attracted traditional rulers, political figures, and dignitaries from across the South-West and beyond.

It marked the formal conferment of the prestigious chieftaincy title on Senator Tinubu in honour of her contributions to the Yoruba race and national development.

Despite the interruption, proceedings continued smoothly, with Governor Adeleke completing his address and the ceremony moving forward without further incident.

As of Monday, the video of the exchange remained a trending topic on social media platforms, sparking varied commentary. While some users viewed the First Lady’s intervention as assertive, others questioned the appropriateness of the public correction.

@uzor_chukwu1 stated, “We tolerate a lot of nonsense in this country. How can a non elected official be telling an elected governor that’s his time is up? She doesn’t have that power.”

@prinxe_B said, “Adeleke should leave music for the musicians and dance for the dancers. He is a governor, yet he spends more time dancing and entertaining than focusing on the responsibilities he was elected to perform. His primary duty is to govern, not to entertain. Osun State needs development, not a full-time performer in government. Leadership is not a stage it is serious work.”

@BabaKay58970725 wrote, “First time I am supporting @officialABAT even though it’s wife. This @davido uncle is a clown unfit to be a LGA chairman, not to talk of a state. I am very convinced he is performing woefully in that state.”

@OYEDEJI said, “We need to train all Presidents, Governors and LGA chair spouses on their rights and limits under the constitution, so that they would stop embarrassing their spouses. Enough of the inflated egos.

“Mrs Jonathan did something similar to @ChibuikeAmaechi when he was RVS Governor.”

@PhilChad477107 wrote, “How many times has she given Wike 5 minutes to conclude his dancing?”

@CollinsAsein stated, “Because he is desperate for a second tenure and they are ready to rubbish him. This is why sometimes we should also give A1 to Wike you can play with him this way when his on the stage.”

@SmartObas wrote, “That’s what’s good for him….. not everytime u go Dey sing, Dey dance like mumu….. there are u need 2be serious & do something moderately. And if u’re to sing, one or two songs is ok. Not to Dey sing as if you’re in your palor or church…. You can’t be wasting peoples time na.”
