Popular singer Timi Dakolo recently shared the story of how he met his wife, Busola.
In a recent interview with Pulse, the ‘Iyawo Mi’ crooner revealed that they first crossed paths at church.
He noted that although Busola wasn’t initially interested in a romantic relationship, he was persistent in his efforts.
Dakolo explained that she often felt embarrassed whenever he picked her up in the branded Picanto he had won from the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007.
He recounted, “I met my wife in the church. I approached her and asked her to be my date for a ball. She gave me her number, but she didn’t pick up when I called. I kept visiting the area, hoping to see her again. One day, I finally saw her and asked why she hadn’t been answering my calls. She explained that her phone had been stolen.”
After sympathizing with her, they became friends, and Dakolo began to develop feelings for her.
Although Busola wanted to keep things platonic, he was determined not to be friend-zoned. He remarked, “I worked hard to win her love. I would take her to and from work. At one point, she felt embarrassed when I picked her up in my branded Picanto. I said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll shock you. Don’t look down on me.’ And I did.”
The couple tied the knot in 2012 and has since welcomed three children together.
