The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the creation of two area commands and the upgrade of five divisions to enhance security in challenging police terrains in Benue State.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Egbetokun, in a statement through the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the strategic adjustment was in furtherance of his commitment to strengthening the country’s internal security architecture.
The IGP said the development follows a comprehensive assessment of the security realities within the State, particularly in troubled Local Government Areas where additional deployments and police presence are highly imperative.

According to him, the newly created Area Commands are the Daudu Area Command, which will oversee the Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Police Divisions, and the Naka Area Command, which will supervise the Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Police Divisions.
Similarly, he stated that the Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan Police Stations have been upgraded to full-fledged Divisions, emphasising that the restructuring is aimed at ensuring an improved response to distress calls, fostering quicker resolution of conflicts, and bringing policing services closer to the grassroots for better security outcomes.
Egbetokun charged the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, alongside the Officers to be deployed to the newly created Area Commands and upgraded Divisional Headquarters, to demonstrate renewed commitment and professionalism in ensuring robust security for the people within the affected areas.
He further directed Commissioners of Police in other areas experiencing similar security challenges, arising from difficult terrain, to develop practical strategies that will guarantee comprehensive and community-driven policing within their jurisdictions.
He also called on the Government and the people of Benue State to continue supporting the Police at all levels, adding that such collaboration remains pivotal to enhancing quality service delivery and sustaining peace across the State.
