Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has asserted that he is a grassroots politician who is open to possibilities.
Naijaonpoint reports that the remarks come amid speculations that Fintiri is likely to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, while fielding questions from journalists on Thursday after presenting his 2026 budget to the state House of Assembly, Fintiri neither confirmed nor denied the speculation that he would defect to the APC.
Asked about the defection rumour and when he would likely take such a step, Fintiri said, “I am a grassroots politician. What will happen, when it happens, then you can judge me.”
Speaking further, Governor Fintiri noted, “I am still trying to organise the PDP, which is my party and which gave me the platform to be here.”
Meanwhile, four members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have defected from the PDP to the APC.
The lawmakers formally switched their political allegiance barely a week after Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, defected to the ruling party, further reshaping the state’s political landscape.
Those who defected to the APC are Manuchim Umezuruike, who represents Port Harcourt I Federal Constituency; Boniface Emerengwa of Ikwerre/Emuoha Federal Constituency; Awake-Inombek Abiante, representing Andoni/Opobo Federal Constituency; and Boma Goodhead, the lawmaker for Asari-Toru Federal Constituency.
The latest development emphasises a growing realignment among Rivers State political actors following recent shifts at the state level.
