Content creator Kuye Adegoke, popularly known as Egungun of Lagos, has come under fire over a controversial birthday message he penned to his wife, Pashotah.
To celebrate her birthday on Wednesday, the social media personality shared a throwback anecdote on Instagram, recounting how he once nearly linked her up with a friend for money, years before they got married.
He posted a photo of his wife with the caption: “10 years ago I wanted to link you up with my friend wey get money pass me for hotel because he say make I go find babe for am for Yabatech, honestly I’m a mumu I no no say na you I go still marry. This guy wan literally give me 3k naira to bring you to his house in Ajah . HAPPY BDAY MY LOVE help me wish her oooooo, she lady really tried o @pashotah.”
... quickly stirred mixed reactions online, with many criticising the tone and content of the message.
An Instagram user commented: “You were going to hook her up with another dude for money, as per se she be what? Are you sure you are okay? This caption not necessary at all man.”
Another wrote, “I don’t know, you keep embarrassing this your wife in subtle ways and you don’t even realize it. This caption is absolutely unnecessary but happy birthday to her.”
One person simply advised, “If you no get caption just write hbd.”
However, some fans defended him, urging critics not to take the caption too seriously.
One wrote, “It’s not what you guys think, don’t worry about the caption. Happy birthday beautiful lady.”

Egungun and Pashotah have been together for several years and got engaged on March 25, 2024, in a romantic setting witnessed by friends and colleagues. The video of the proposal went viral, drawing congratulatory messages from fellow skitmakers and fans.
In March 2025, the couple welcomed their first child.
