THE governor of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said his visit to President Bola Tinubu was strictly centered on governance matters, not politics, amid speculations about shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde met with the President at the Aso Rock Villa today, arriving around 3:30 p.m.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the governor stressed that the discussions focused on national governance issues, noting that President Tinubu is the leader of Nigeria as a whole and not solely of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Makinde, engaging the President on governance matters should not be viewed through a partisan lens, as the interest of the country must come first.
Addressing rumours that he may defect to the APC, especially following the recent exit of some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders to the ruling party, Makinde firmly ruled out such a move.
He said he remains comfortable in the PDP but acknowledged that certain national challenges may require bipartisan collaboration rather than rigid party positions.
The governor emphasized that progress for Nigeria sometimes demands cooperation across party lines, with leaders working together to determine the best path forward in the national interest.
