Nollywood actresses Funmi Awelewa and Regina Chukwu are mourning the death of Nigerian comedian Sanku Comedy.
According to reports, the skitmaker and actor was involved in a fatal car accident on September 1st, 2025, along the Oyo-Ogbomoso road in Ibadan.
Taking to her Instagram page, Funmi revealed that when she had the news, she sent one of her students who stays close to Bowen Hospital to check on him, and he told her he was responding to treatment.
Awelewa said she prayed against death; unfortunately, God knew best. The Yoruba actress expressed how heartbroken she is over the news as she noted his pain, efforts, strength and struggles.
“When I saw the news online, I quickly sent one of my students who stays close to Bowen hospital, and he told me that he met one of your friends at the hospital who told us that you’re responding to treatment. I prayed to God, we prayed.

I’m heartbroken.

Also mourning him, Regina said she feels for his mother.
“I heard the most devastating news today, and I am broken.
This is so sad.
I feel for you, momma”.
Last month, actress Jayeola Monje, otherwise known as Jaiye Kuti, had mourned her colleague, Seun Confirm, who died from BPH – Benign prostatic hyperplasia. Expressing sadness at his death, Jaiye said his untimely death really pained her, and prayed that God console his family.
Also, last month, actor Odunayo Olufemi, better known as Oloto, was announced dead. Actor, Kunle Afod revealed that Oloto went to church, complained about feeling uneasy and went to a hospital opposite the church, to complain to the receptionist when he lost his life.
Also mourning him, Regina Chukwu had described the late veteran as her boss and a true one. She appreciated him for his advice and for helping her in her career, as she prayed for him to rest well.
On the same day Oloto’s death was announced, Yoruba Nollywood was thrown into another mourning following the death of upcoming actress, Omotola Odunsi.
In June, Nollywood lost another of its own, Kayode Peters. According to reports, the Nigerian film and stage producer died in Canada. His colleague, Steve Onu, known as Yaw, confirmed his demise.
Also, in June, the Yoruba Nollywood industry was thrown into mourning following the death of their colleague, Berry White, who slumped and died in her house. The news of her demise was made known by her colleague, Bakare Zainab, via her Instagram page.
