A commercial tricycle rider in Aba, Abia State, has received praise from Nigerians after returning ₦4 million mistakenly left behind in his tricycle by a passenger.
In viral videos from the scene, the passenger was seen praying for the rider who was holding the bundles of cash as people surrounded them and praised him for his integrity.
The rider identified as Lucky Okoro also shared the encounter on his Facebook page on Thursday, thanking God for the opportunity to do what he called “the right thing.”
According to Okoro, the incident happened after he picked up a woman from the popular Aba Main Park and dropped her at Ariaria.
The woman, who is said to be a Cameroonian, had unknowingly left a bag containing ₦4 million inside his tricycle, commonly known as “keke.”
Okoro wrote, “Jehovah thank you. I have made your name to be praised. This morning, one woman left N4m in my Keke. I carried her from Aba main park to Ariara.
“She stopped and forgot her bag inside my Keke, so I was looking for her but I couldn’t find her.
“I returned to park. I did not see her again. Then, I went back to Ariara Market and found her at the junction where she was crying, wanted to kill herself.”
Okoro said he approached her, wiped her tears, and handed back the money she had lost.
He added that he also helped her settle into a nearby hotel to recover from the trauma.
“I called her, wiped all her tears then returned the money to her and took her to a hotel and she paid for it.
“I told her to stay there so that tomorrow she can continue. She is from Cameroon, she’s not a Nigerian talk less of Aba woman,” he wrote.
Despite being mocked by some fellow keke riders who called him “mugu” for returning the money, Okoro stood firm in his belief.
“Thanks Jehovah, I found her. Some of my fellow Keke people called me mugun but I am not a mugun. I love what I did.
“All thanks Jehovah. I have made her happy today. She was happy that I returned her N4m,: he wrote, proudly identifying himself as a Jehovah’s Witness from Umuomei in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
This incident has since gone viral, with many Nigerians praising Okoro’s integrity, saying that many would have taken the money.
