THE Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border.
In a statement issued this night, the NIS revealed that the controversial crossdresser was apprehended while attempting to leave Nigeria.
NIS spokesman DCI KT Udo referred to Bobrisky as a person of interest due to recent public concerns.
Udo stated, “He is currently undergoing interrogation and will be transferred to the appropriate authorities for further action.”
The Service reassured the public that it will continue to handle its duties with professionalism and civility in managing the nation’s borders.
The arrest follows allegations made by blogger Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who claimed in viral videos that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers accepted ₦15 million from Bobrisky to drop money laundering charges related to his naira-spraying incident in April.
Afterward, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison and released in August.
The blogger also alleged that Bobrisky paid large sums to secure special privileges in prison, claims which Bobrisky has denied.
The EFCC and Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) launched investigations into the matter, while the House of Representatives initiated a probe, leading to the suspension of some senior NCoS officers by the Federal Government.
On September 30, 2024, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, set up a committee to investigate misconduct allegations within the NCoS.
The committee’s report, submitted today confirmed Bobrisky served his sentence but enjoyed certain privileges, including access to a television and fridge.
