The Action Peoples Party (APP) has dissolved its Imo State Executive Committee and constituted an eight-member Interim Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state pending fresh congresses.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the party’s National Working Committee and subsequently ratified by the National Executive Committee.
The move, according to the party, was aimed at repositioning the party and addressing internal issues within its Imo chapter.
The newly constituted Interim Caretaker Committee will manage the party’s activities until congresses are conducted at the ward, local government and state levels.
The committee is chaired by Ernest Njesi, while Emeka Onwukwe will serve as Secretary.
Other members include Henry Alaribe as Deputy Chairman (Owerri Zone); Ogemdi Ezemonye as Deputy Chairman (Orlu Zone); Ernest Ezirim as Deputy Chairman (Okigwe Zone); Cajethan Duke as Publicity Secretary; and Peter Etoh as Treasurer.
Addressing the newly appointed executives, the National Chairman of the party, Uchenna Nnadi, said the dissolution of the state executive was taken in the interest of unity and stability.
According to him, the intervention became necessary to restore internal harmony among members of the party in Imo State.
He urged the caretaker committee to operate an inclusive administration and ensure that all stakeholders are carried along in their programmes and activities.
In a related development, the party has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its readiness to conduct congresses at the ward, local government and state levels.
In a letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of INEC, the APP National Chairman, Nnadi, alongside the National Secretary, Abu Ibrahim Bossan, conveyed the party’s intention in line with the statutory 21-day notice requirement.
According to the schedule outlined by the party leadership, ward congresses will be held on March 24, 2026, while local government congresses are slated for March 26. The state congress is expected to take place on March 28, 2026.
Party officials expressed optimism that the congresses would produce a new leadership structure capable of repositioning the party in Imo State.
