From George Onyejiuwa, Owerri
President of the Orlu People’s Assembly (OPA), Chief Fidel Anujuo, has berated those clamouring for a second term for Governor Hope Uzodinma, stressing that only his performance can guarantee him a second term in office.
He said that who those are calling on the governor to contest for a second in office in 2023 are praise singers and sycophants.

Anujuo stated this on Wednesday during an exclusive interaction said that he had always frowned at praise singing as a way of gaining acceptability, saying that those who praise office holders are sycophants who have nothing to offer.
He also said frowns against the zoning of political offices, saying that it breeds mediocrity and incompetence.
He said, “I have told those who have already started clamouring for a second term for Hope Uzodinma that the cheapest way to get a second chance is performance. Uzodinma has two more years to go and I don’t think the best thing is to start praising him. It’s only his performance that can guarantee him a second term in office and not praise-singing and town crying.
“It is this same belief that made me frown at zoning because not only is it undemocratic, it is also primordial and breeds mediocrity. It is only his performance that can give him acceptability.
“The nearest we’ve had in terms of a free and fair election in this country was during the time of Chief MKO Abiola. He did not win because he was a Yoruba candidate but because he built bridges of understanding across Nigeria. My prayer for Uzodinma is for him to perform well and should not listen to those clamouring for a second term for him now because they are distracting him.
“My prayer for Uzodinma as his brother is for him to perform and give the people of Imo at least 80 per cent in terms of performance. If he performs many people will say that he has done well and campaign for him for a second term and not these people calling for a second term now because it’s a distraction”, he added.

Bogoro crisis: Dogara stripped of traditional title in Bauchi
A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has been suspended by the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu, as Jakadan Bauchi.
The suspension followed the attacks on the convoys of the Emirs of Bauchi and Dass, Biliyaminu Othman, on December 31, 2021, by hoodlums on their way to Mwari for the 21st anniversary of a late leader and crusader, Peter Gonto.
Adamu, while speaking to journalists at a press conference in his Palace on Monday, said the suspension is with immediate effect.
The monarch, who was represented by the Galadiman Bauchi, Sa’idu Jahun, said, “More surprisingly, he did not sympathise nor showed any sign of remorse towards what happened to their Royal Highnesses, the Emirs of Bauchi and Dass.
“The Emirate Council, therefore, decided to suspend his title of Jakadan Bauchi until the determination of the case by the court.”
had reported that the convoys of the two Emirs who were on their way to a book launch/anniversary lecture and Foundation launch, of Gonto, when they were attacked after it turned violent and had to turn back to Bauchi with some vehicles in their convoys damaged. The windscreen of the Emir of Dass was among the vehicles partly destroyed.
Dogara, who represents Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro Constituency in the House of Representatives and is in his fourth term, had written a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, informing him of security threats if the event is allowed to hold.
But despite the warning, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, gave approval for the event to hold just as he ordered the full deployment of police tactical teams to provide security to lives and properties before, during and after the memorial anniversary and book launch of the grandfather of Dogara’s wife.
Shortly after the memorial lecture and book launch commenced at the Government Secondary School, Mwari in Bogoro LGA, women and youths besieged the venue of the event forcing it to end abruptly.
They later set the venue on fire burning down chairs, canopies, musical equipment and many other properties. Ten houses were later confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command in a statement, as having been burnt during the crisis.
