Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday attended a church service to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt.
The governor was accompanied by his deputy, Ngozi Odu, alongside other senior government officials.
The service marked the first public appearance of Governor Fubara and his deputy since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against the governor on Thursday.
The development represents the third impeachment attempt against Fubara in less than three years.
During the church service, the governor was seen exchanging pleasantries with former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili, at the venue.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service was held to honour Nigerian servicemen and women who lost their lives defending the nation’s unity and sovereignty.
The programme also included prayers for the repose of the souls of fallen soldiers and for the safety of those currently serving in active duty across the country.
Despite the renewed political tension in the state, Governor Fubara and members of his administration have so far remained silent on the allegations of gross misconduct levelled against them by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
