A pro-democracy group has called on Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to resign amid an ongoing impeachment process initiated by members of the State House of Assembly.
The call followed the submission of an impeachment notice against the governor, reportedly signed by 26 of the 27 lawmakers in the Assembly.
The notice was presented during Thursday’s plenary by the Majority Leader of the House, Major Jack, who outlined eight allegations of gross misconduct against the governor.
Reacting in a statement on Saturday, the National Vanguard for Accountable and Transparent Democracy, NVATD, through its spokesperson Wisdom Abah, said the governor’s actions had intensified the political crisis in the state.
The group accused Fubara of reneging on peace agreements brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve the standoff between the executive and the legislature.
According to NVATD, the governor’s continued refusal to engage with the Assembly, including failing to present the 2026 budget, amounts to a disregard for legislative authority.
The group urged the governor to step aside to prevent further political instability in the state.
