New Delhi: The Indian cricket team suffered a major setback in the fourth Test match played in Ahmedabad when the team’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was injured. Iyer had suffered a back injury and that is why he did not come out to bat in this match. After this, he was also ruled out of the ODI series against Australia. Now the question is who will replace Iyer in the ODI series? One name is emerging very fast in this and that name is wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson. According to media reports, Sanju can replace Samson Iyer, although no official announcement has been made on this yet.

Iyer’s injury is so deep that he can be out of IPL as well. In this league, he plays for Kolkata Knight Riders and is also the captain of the team. Kolkata has also suffered a setback due to Iyer’s injury. Now the question before the franchise is who will be the captain in place of Iyer.

Will Sanju get a chance?

When the news of Iyer being out of the ODI series came to light, it was told in many media reports that Sanju Samson can take his place in the ODI series. But till now BCCI has not made any announcement on this. On the other hand, according to the report published on the website of English newspaper The Indian Express on March 14, the senior selection committee will not announce Iyer’s replacement for the ODI series. Now it has to be seen what is officially said on this matter by the BCCI.

Samson had to leave the ODI team after the tour of New Zealand. He was selected in the T20 series against Sri Lanka but he was also ruled out of this series due to a knee injury. Since then he has been trying to make a comeback.

Pandya will captain

The three-match ODI series between India and Australia is starting from 17 March. The first match of the series is to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma will not play in this match and Hardik Pandya will captain the team. However, Rohit will return for the next two matches and then he will captain the team. After Iyer’s exit, now Suryakumar Yadav is considered a strong contender to take his place in the playing-11.
