The meeting between Trivedi and PM Modi focused on India-Bangladesh relations, according to a diplomatic source in New Delhi
A day after returning from Dhaka following a series of high-level meetings with Bangladesh’s leadership, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
The meeting between Trivedi and PM Modi focused on India-Bangladesh relations, according to a diplomatic source in New Delhi.
“Yes, he had the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. They discussed Bangladesh-India relations,” UNB quoted the source as saying.
Trivedi arrived in New Delhi on Monday after holding three separate meetings in Dhaka, which were seen as part of India’s continued consultations with the new Bangladesh government and efforts to strengthen engagement between the two neighbouring countries.
During his visit, Trivedi met Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on Sunday. He subsequently held separate courtesy meetings with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat on Monday.
In his meeting with Rahman, Trivedi conveyed greetings from PM Modi and expressed India’s willingness to work with the Bangladesh government and its people in a “positive, constructive and forward-looking” manner.
The two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties, with an emphasis on a people-centric approach.
Trivedi also met Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and discussed issues of common interest, including security cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
The discussions also focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
During the meetings, the Indian high commissioner conveyed New Delhi’s willingness to deepen people-centric cooperation across sectors, guided by mutual interest, mutual benefit and mutual sensitivities.
Trivedi’s meeting with PM Modi comes as India and Bangladesh seek to maintain high-level diplomatic engagement and explore avenues to further develop bilateral ties under the new political dispensation in Dhaka.
