Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood to honour the Indian Army and Navy contingents as they marched during Seychelles’ 50th Independence Day celebrations on Sunday, highlighting India’s participation in the Golden Jubilee event during his three-day visit to the island nation.
The Indian Army and Indian Navy contingents participated in the ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the East African country’s independence. During the march, the army contingent sang the famous regimental song, ‘Badlu Ram Ka Badan’, drawing attention at the event.

PM Modi attends Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee celebrations
Modi is on a three-day official visit to Seychelles that began on Saturday. During the visit, he is holding discussions with the country’s leadership and taking part in events commemorating 50 years of Seychelles’ independence.
India’s contingent at the celebrations included personnel from the Assam Regiment of the Indian Army, the Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate INS Tarkash, and the indigenously built Survey Vessel Large INS Ikshak, underscoring the participation of the Indian armed forces in the commemorative event.
“During the port call, Tarkash, along with INS Ikshak, will participate in Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Day of Seychelles, on June 29, with a marching contingent and naval band, India Seychelles BridgesofFriendship MAHASAGAR MaritimeCooperation,” the Navy said in a post on X on Sunday.
PM Modi holds bilateral talks
During his visit to Seychelles, Prime Minister Modi held separate meetings with Seychelles Opposition leader Bernard Georges and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, focusing on strengthening India’s partnerships in the Indian Ocean region.
Sharing details of his meeting with Bernard Georges on X, Modi said the two leaders discussed various aspects of the India-Seychelles partnership. He also thanked the Leader of the Opposition for his warm remarks in the Seychelles National Assembly following the Prime Minister’s address and said he was pleased to see that India-Seychelles relations enjoy broad support across different sections of Seychellois society.
PM Modi also met Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, noting that the two had previously met at the AI Summit earlier this year and had another opportunity to interact in Seychelles. He said the discussions centred on ways to further strengthen the India-Mauritius partnership and expressed satisfaction over the progress made under the two countries’ Enhanced Strategic Partnership.
According to the Indian PM, the two leaders also reviewed projects being implemented under the Special Economic Package and exchanged views on expanding cooperation in areas including capacity building, skilling, defence, energy and cyber security.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles, where he thanked the people of Seychelles for their warm welcome and hospitality. He said his address focused on the long-term partnership between India and Seychelles, built on shared values, and added that he also spent time interacting with members of the Assembly following his speech.
