The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an update on the final register of voters ahead of the Anambra State governorship election.
Naijaonpoint reports that INEC, in a statement issued on Thursday after its weekly meeting, said voter registration was successfully completed across the 326 Wards in Anambra State between July 8 and 20, 2025.
According to the Commission, a total of 168,187 citizens registered as new voters during the exercise.
National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, explained that the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) was deployed to clean up the register.
“27,817 records were found to be double or multiple registrations and removed from the list. Consequently, the figure for new registrants now stands at 140,370, while valid applications for transfer into the State is 5,983, making a total of 146,353 new voters,” Olumekun said.
INEC disclosed that before the latest registration, Anambra had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the additional valid registrants, the voters’ roll now stands at 2,802,790.
The Commission also broke down the figures by local government area:
- Idemili North – 246,318 voters (8.79%), highest in the state
- Awka South – 216,611 voters (7.73%)
- Ogbaru – 188,016 voters (6.71%)
- Dunokofia – 83,580 voters (2.98%)
- Anambra West – 71,332 voters (2.55%), lowest in the state.
INEC assured that all Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for new registrants and those who transferred into the state would be ready for collection before the governorship election.
“The list of new registrants has already been displayed in all wards for claims and objections as provided in the Electoral Act 2022,” the Commission added.
